Welcome to
Charlotte's Violin Studio!
Charlotte is an enthusiastic teacher, and is patient, encouraging and flexible in her approach. Whether you are a beginning player wanting to master the basics, an intermediate player needing inspiration, or an advanced player wanting to refine technique, develop musicianship and prepare for auditions, lessons can help you to reach your musical goals.
Lessons cover basic and advanced violin technique, music theory, note reading, rhythm, and musical interpretation. Students of all abilities, from beginner to advanced, and from ages five to adult are welcome.
Make a beautiful sound
Tension in the bow arm can produce a crunchy, grating sound that is hard on the ears. Releasing tension in the bow arm and addressing other problems with bow technique often transforms a beginning violinist's sound.
Play the right notes
One of the biggest obstacles to making the violin sing is playing in tune. By learning to tune their instruments and adjusting each note of a scale to match the correct intonation, students develop a sense of pitch. Proper placement of the left hand and a sensitive ear are key to playing in tune.
Have fun with the music
Perhaps most importantly, lessons challenge students to move from playing notes on a page to expressing musical ideas, and encourage students to bring the music alive.
We're a team
Parents are welcome to participate in the learning process. Students learn more quickly when playing music they enjoy, so Charlotte helps them find appealing repertoire. Regular practice is an essential part of learning any instrument, and studio recitals encourage students to practice by giving them a goal to work towards.
Lessons are available in her home studio in Cambridge, MA, or in students' homes.
